Aim of the Course
The course is intended to provide the candidate with the legislative requirements governing abrasive wheels and both theirs and their employer’s requirements to comply with the law. The course will also outline the risks associated and ill health if controls are not implemented into the work activity.

Learning Objectives
The candidate will understand the risks when using abrasive wheels which can result in ill health and or injury to individuals. The course will provide measures that each candidate can implement into their activities on site to minimise the risk of ill health and injury.

Abrasive Wheels
• Overview of PUWER 1998
• Hazards, Risks and Risk Control Measures
• Accident Causation and Prevention
• Selection and of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Types of Machines and Abrasive Wheels
• Noise Hazards and protective measures
• Pre-Use Safety Checks
• Mounting of Abrasive Wheels
• Electrical safety including cables and plugs
• Refuelling with petrol

Silica
• Understanding the health hazards
• Use of dust suppression equipment and PPE

Hand Arm Vibration
• Health hazards and symptoms
• Controls and limitations of tool use

At the end of the course the candidate will be expected to complete a short test and a certificate will be issued on completion to each candidate.
